I BELIEVE

Erin LeCount

I believe, I believe

I believe, I believe

I'm on the cusp of my star sign

I'm an agnostic, I'm on the cynic side

When it comes to God, I cannot decide

Another a piece of me compartmentalised

I've read the magazine personality quiz

"I know who I am", I said on the internet

I don't give a shit what your people think

But I'm making sure you're aware of it

I'm living in a secular age, looking for someone to blame

Looking for someone to love me, to save or be saved

And so this year I abstained in almost every way

I cut off all of my hair, I didn't eat for days

I couldn't satiate this hunger I contain

I had my body bathed in holy water, down the drain

But I believe, no

A vacancy, an apathy

God, the novelty's wearing off on me

And the medicine is a funny thing

It's the dopamine, it's synthetic and

When I call a friend, we don't mention it

Discussing the weather while we're both under it

But it's temporary, I call it discipline

I'm sober, I'm celibate, and God still won't let me in

I'm living in a secular age, looking for someone to blame

Looking for someone to love me, to save or be saved

And so this year I abstained in almost every way

I cut off all of my hair, I didn't eat for days

I couldn't satiate this hunger I contain

You self-inflict the pain, but guilt won't make you clean again

But I believe, no

I believe in you and me, God, I believe in the machines

I heard you're looking for a saviour, honey, put your faith in me

Wait for God to intervene, say, "It just is what it is"

Blame it all on the eclipse, solar systems, politics

But it's the future, it just is

It's the future, it just is
